Why clean gutters matter?
Keeping gutters clear can prevent serious water damage to your home as clogged gutters and downspouts lead to dam-ups in the drain outlets with rainwater filling up and then overflowing.
Expensive damages
Overflowing gutters will eventually pull loose from their mountings and when this happen it is the same as not having any gutters at all. Water pooling for long periods of time will rot wood gutters and rust metal ones but more importantly, the over-flowing water will run down building walls, seeping inside and causing more damage to windows, walls, doors, foundations, sidings – and even flooding basements.
Maintenance is key
Gutter systems should be ideally thoroughly cleaned in spring and autumn. At the very least gutters should be checked before winter as trapped debris and water could freezer in the colder weather putting further strain on the system. If the property or building is located close to trees more frequent cleaning may be required.
A regular cleaning routine can easily prevent any problems, as well as help maintain an attractive appearance for the property. However this task has to be undertaken with caution as with any work from height.
Falls from height are the most common cause of fatal injury so if the property is higher than single story or roof access is difficult, it is strongly recommended to hire a fully trained and adequately equipped professional.
